GREENSBURG, Ind. – Skybird Manor Apartments, at 302 E 10th St., in Greensburg, caught fire due to a gas leak underneath the building on Thursday and the building suffered serious damage.
For the safety of the buildings surrounding Skybird Manor, authorities shut off all gas and electricity to the facility. The Greensburg Fire Department, Greensburg Police Department, Decatur County EMS, and first responders evacuated the residents and staff. There were no injuries.
The one-bedroom apartment complex for seniors and the disabled will remain closed for the foreseeable future. The Skybird Manor site and regional management teams are working on relocating the residents who have been displaced due to the fire.
Decatur County Emergency Management Agency has set up a warming center for residents at First Christian Church in Greensburg and is managing residents.
