FRANKLIN, Ind. – Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Milestone Contractors, L.P., is scheduled to begin Phase 2 of a six-phase intersection improvement project later this week on U.S. 31 in Franklin.
Phase 1 bridge rehabilitation and box culvert replacement work is still in progress over Canary Ditch, located between Acorn Drive and Schoolhouse Road in Franklin, and is expected to be complete in early August. Find out more about Phase 1 here.
Workers will begin to widen the embankment along northbound U.S. 31, between Nineveh Street and South Main Street in Franklin, on Wednesday, April 23.
Drivers can expect the following traffic restrictions during the initial portion of Phase 2 through early August, weather permitting.
- Northbound right shoulder closure between Nineveh Street and South Main Street
- Intermittent lane closures between Nineveh Street and South Main Street (announced by INDOT Southeast via Facebook and X before lane closures)
As part of Phase 2, intersection modification work is anticipated to begin on U.S. 31 in early August. Additional traffic impacts can be expected at that time. INDOT will provide updates at a later date. Weather permitting, Phase 2 work is expected to be completed in late November.
This project is part of a $66.2 million intersection improvement contract awarded in February 2025. The overall contract work is anticipated to be complete in 2028. INDOT will continue to provide information and updates as work progresses. Find more information on the overall contract here.
